For most of 2008 focus was on the banks credit crunch. Businesses focused on cash collections, credit checks and the availability of their banking facilities.

Whilst diligence in these areas is still needed, attention now needs to turn to the recession that, in 2009, we are now entering.
It’s important that businesses reconsider their budgets for 2009 on best and worst scenarios. What is realistic? Some businesses are anticipating, at worst, a 40% fall in sales, a 30% drop in margins and a 50% decline in profits.
Having reviewed the budget, action plans need to be considered for different scenarios. How can fixed costs be pruned? How can staff perform better? When did you last undertake a comprehensive review of your client base, your product range and your cost base?
Matrix can work with you to fully and realistically review your budget, assess your cost structure, your current business model and your competitive position. We can then work with you to determine what actions should be taken and we can help to implement those difficult but necessary actions.
There is no time for complacency. An attitude of “we’re all right” is foolhardy. Plan now for a worst case scenario.
If you really are in strong position, you need to take steps to gain greater market share by picking up business from competitors – or even acquiring them.
Benefits: a renewed assessment of your costs, business model and competitive position is essential. An action plan predicated on different possible scenarios will give you confidence for what will undoubtedly be tough trading over the coming couple of years.

As many as 40% of mangers surveyed said they doubted their leadership had a credible plan to deal with the current crisis.
